Sir Arthur Gilbert put
together remarkable groups of silver by England’s greatest
but very different silversmiths Paul de Lamerie (1688-1751) and
Paul Storr, (1771-1844) who both worked in London. De Lamerie’s
light-hearted irregular rococo silver is very different from the
majestic formality of the silver of Storr. To put the work of these
supreme makers in context, Sir Arthur assembled a remarkable group
of material by their contemporaries.
